Why It’s Important to Have a Reliable Water Heater for the Holidays

Imagine a scenario where you have friends or family over for a holiday celebration. You enjoy their company and the holiday feast. Then, you learn that your hot water tank isn’t working. Unless you don’t mind boiling cauldrons of hot water like people did in the past, your holiday may be all but ruined. Here’s why it’s important for your water heater to work reliably during the holidays.

Water for Personal Hygiene

Remember shows such as “Downton Abbey” where the scullery maid has to continually boil water, then have someone help her haul it upstairs for the lord or lady’s bath? When your hot water tank fails, you, too, will have to continually heat up water so that your guests can see to their personal hygiene, including hot baths and washing their hands with warm water.

Water for Washing Dishes

If you have a dishwasher, you’ll need hot water to make sure your dishes are clean. Of course, when you’re entertaining for the holidays, you can expect your dishwasher loads to multiply. Because of this, your water tank has to provide much more hot water than usual. If your hot water supply stops, you’ll be stuck not only heating a great deal of water on your stove but also using it to wash lots of dishes by hand.

Water for Laundry

Along with lots of extra dishes to wash, the holidays bring lots of extra laundry to wash. You may or may not invite guests who stay overnight or over a weekend to use your washing machine, but you’re certainly going to have extra tablecloths, napkins, and other linens that need to go into the wash. Moreover, some table linens need hot water to clean, especially if they’re stained with wine, sauces, gravy, and other substances. Even a washing machine that has a cold cycle uses warm water at some point, and many washing machines won’t work the way they should without hot water.

Some People Drink Hot Water

There are some people who swear that a glass of hot water is good for their health. Since boiling hot water isn’t good for anyone to drink, your guests may expect to drink the water out of your hot water tap, which shouldn’t go above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If there’s no hot water, they’ll have to heat the water up, then wait or add some cold water until it’s cool enough to drink.
